Summary Of The Book The Cay By Theodore Taylor

The Cay is a historical fiction adventure novel written by author Theodore Taylor and published in 1969. Theodore Taylor wrote more than 50 books during his lifetime. He served on a gasoline tanker during World War II, and then also in the Pacific. His family tells readers through the website theodoretaylor.com that "he collected scraps of stories", meaning that he used his experiences to give him ideas for his writing. The Cay book is a story of survival at sea. It has been a New York Times Best Book of the Year, a Horn Book honor book, a Publisher's Weekly Children's Book to Remember, as well as a Lewis Caroll Shelf Award winner. The events of World War II are critical to the story's development, but this action-packed novel is more a story of self-discovery in the face of extremes than anything else. The book is approximately 134 pages, comprising nineteen chapters, and two people lost at sea trying to survive.

Mystudents write personal letters to "Ted" after completing The Cay. He has always responded. He also sends me notice of his newest releases. The students are so thrilled to have a real author write back to them. This year he sent each of my team's 90 students who wrote to him a personalizedand autographed brochure. Needless to say, they were thrilled. Tednow has a website at www.theodoretaylor.com.
